Dear colleagues,
The World Medical Association (WMA), which is representing the National Medical Associations, will be meeting in Santiago de Chile from April 25th to April 27th, 2019 in order to discuss the German proposition intending to partly amend its official position on euthanasia and assisted suicide.
With a new and obscure text, it is intending to partly amend the condemnation of euthanasia and assisted suicide by the WMA (Until now stated as “unethical”). It seeks as well for a new definition of euthanasia. The FIAMC seeks to maintain its position of declaring the euthanasia and the assisted suicide as incompatible with ethics and to continue helping the sick without provoking their death.
The FIAMC has exposed its position in the chart sent by the former president Dr. John Lee to the WMA:
The FIAMC is strongly strengthening the palliative care, which by its own nature is excluding any deathgiving act.
I am inviting you to invest all the ressources at your disposal to influence your own medical schools in favour of a healthy medical practice.

La Asociación Médica Mundial (“AMA”), que representa a las asociaciones nacionales de médicos, se reunirá en Santiago de Chile los próximos 25 a 27 de abril para discutir la propuesta alemana que intenta enmendar en parte la posición oficial sobre la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido.
Se buscaría enmendar parcialmente con un nuevo y rebuscado texto la condena de la eutanasia y del suicidio asistido por parte de la AMA (hasta ahora son “no éticos”). También se busca definir nuevamente la eutanasia. La posición de la FIAMC es la de mantener como contrarios a la ética la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido y continuar ayudando a los enfermos sin provocarles la muerte.
La FIAMC ya expuso su posición en la carta que el anterior presidente, Dr. John Lee, envió a la AMA:
La FIAMC apuesta decididamente por los cuidados paliativos que, por su propia naturaleza, excluyen cualquier acto que provoque la muerte.
Os ruego pongáis todos los recursos a vuestro alcance para influir en vuestros propios Colegios de Médicos a favor de una sana práctica médica.
