The Linacre Quarterly Wins 5 Catholic Media Awards and Makes an Impact

The Linacre Quarterly (LQ) continues to shine as a Catholic publication.
We have been blessed to receive a great many Catholic Press awards from the Catholic Media Association over the years, and the most recent round is no exception.
LQ was ahead of the curve in publishing about the effects of AI in medicine. Catholic Health Care and AI Ethics: Algorithms for Human Flourishing received an honorable mention for in-depth writing.
The Linacre Quarterly swept the top three awards in best essays for a scholarly magazine with The Journey Within; Assisted Reproductive Technology and Natural Law: How Seven Years as an Embryologist Revealed IVF’s Disordered Approach to Patient Care; and Is Self-Amputation for Survival Morally Justifiable? Our essays have been consistently strong entries and always reflect the wide range of Catholic interests and experience in medicine. Our editorial submissions have also done well, and this year garnered an honorable mention for Faith, Science and the Spirit.
What makes our performance in these categories even more remarkable is the fact that, in comparison with competitors like America and the National Catholic Register, we are a very small publication with a particular perspective. It is nice to know that the hard work of our writers and the volunteers, who make The Linacre Quarterly possible, is appreciated by folks outside the Catholic Medical Association.
That appreciation extends to the wider publishing world as well. We recently received our first impact factor rating. The impact factor compares the number of citations to articles in a two-year period to the number of citable articles. We had 40 citations to 84 citable articles, resulting in a factor of 0.5. That means that not only are people reading our work, but they are also passing it along to others in their own articles. The article cited most often in 2022 was Does the Uniform Determination of Death Act Need to Be Revised? Our ongoing discussion of brain death and the criteria for determining it is far reaching.
Catholic medicine does indeed make a difference!
