The British Lourdes Medical Association provides information, advice and fellowship for clinicians who take sick pilgrims to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, and is a focus for those clinicians who may be interested in joining a pilgrimage in the future.

We meet once a year to share ideas and our experiences, with an educational and social programme, including outside speakers. Recent outside speakers have included Sr. Bernadette Moreau (the subject of the 70th miracle) and Dr. John O’Reilly a respiratory physician with pilgrimage experience. We have had recent workshops on training lay helpers, competencies required of clinical teams and travel issues.

We believe that sharing best practice is important and you will find on our website examples of useful documents such as policies in current use for pilgrimages travelling from Great Britain to Lourdes, which may be of use to those involved in planning their own pilgrimages.

We work closely with the British Pilgrimage Directors Group, and provide them with medical opinion and expertise as required.
