“I was nothing, and of this nothing God made something great. In Holy Communion I am heart to heart with Jesus. How sublime is my destiny.” -St Bernadette Soubirous

View online version February 11th is Our Lady of Lourdes’ Feast Day. On this date in 1858 was the first of 18 Marian apparitions to the 14yo St Bernadette Soubirous in a small grotto in Lourdes, France. Lourdes has since become a special place of pilgrimage and healing. In 1992 Pope Saint John Paul II also instituted the World Day of the Sick to be observed annually on the liturgical Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, a powerful intercessor for the sick. On this occasion special Lourdes water is distributed world wide to the sick. Each year in Melbourne a special Mass for the Day of the Sick is held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, led by the Order of Malta, with thousands in attendance. Some images of this Mass can be found at the links below.Read Pope Francis’ message for the 33rd World Day of the Sick Lourdes is also known for the many miracle cures of the sick and infirm. Cures by God, through the intercession of Mary, who continues to draw many millions to this special place each year and to the healing consolation of her Son, Jesus. Future CMA newsletters will include the details of one of the recognised 71 Lourdes miracles, as a symbol of hope and a reminder of how God continues to work, heal and provide solace in the world. [Link] Speaking of hope and solace, there have been positive developments in the healthcare space in Australia and around the world. On 28th of January, the Queensland Health Minister, Tim Nichols MP, banned puberty blockers for under 18s and announced an urgent inquiry into the controversial practices of gender youth medicine. On the same day, US President Donald J Trump released an executive order entitled: ‘Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation‘! Strong words that seek to end abusive youth gender medicine practice in the U.S. He has also released the pro-life prisoners, stopped tax payer funding of foriegn abortions and the funding or promotion of US elective abortions by tax funds. US Right to Life reports here. We can only hope and pray similar initiatives will take place in Australia following the upcoming federal elections. With the recent change of U.S. leadership, it also seems that many things that have been hidden and covered over are now being revealed; from the JFK files to the USAID scandals, and the many revelations of questionable activities of U.S. government departments and agencies. These revelations provide more insights into the nature of global politics, the global covid response and the role of the public health industry and the military in what we have experienced in the last 5 years. It has challenged many people’s understanding of the world, of medicine and public health and the ethis that has underpinned them. The CMA hopes the light of truth prevails in these challenging times and scatters the darkness of falsehoods. And some say, ‘sunlight is the best disinfectant’, regardless of the ugliness it may reveal. These turbulent times are a good reminder that we as Catholics are best served by keeping our eyes and minds on Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life; engaging with the world in a manner ‘wise as serpents, yet gentle as doves’, not being easily mislead or deceived, recalling that the tendency to place our faith in the ‘princes’ and institutions of this world, outside the teachings and sacraments of Mother Church, is fraught with the risk of disappointment, if not despair. View this newsletter online Write to: admin@cmanews.com.au Previous ACMA newsletters here. Become a CMA member here
