21 PRO NEW HKLD BULLETIN NO. 3-2023 – WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT AND EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Dear readers and members of HKLD!
Science has always accompanied the development of society and humanity and contributed to the progress of various professions, including medicine, all in the service of improving the quality of life and well-being in society. However, some scholars have always sought to separate themselves from religion by considering spirituality to be a contradiction of advanced scientific thought. Therefore, the question arose of the possibility of complementarity between science and religion, that is, whether religion excludes science, but also vice versa. In order to bring these questions closer and clarify these questions to our readers and try to find answers to them, in this issue of the CCL Bulletin we present an article by a group of authors from the Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Sciences in Zagreb, which presents the relationship between religion and science throughout history and offers the most appropriate modalities of their contemporary relationship
In addition to this, we bring an article by Prof. Zorica Maros from the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Sarajevo in which she questions the bioethical justification of afirrmative therapy in the process of defnitive care of transgender people. the article is a press-adapted presentation from the International Scientific Symposium Theology and Medicine in front of the challenges of gender reassignment held in May 2023 in Split, which we reported on in the last issue of Glasniki.
From the spiritual recollections held for hkld members by prof. emer. Stipan Jurić on the occasion of the feast of St. Peter Luke, two articles have emerged in which Prof. Juric considers the manifestation of God’s mercy in response to the pathos and bitterness of human life – both created on the basis of the events described in Luke’s Gospel.
There are also common news about the activities of the Society by branches and sections as well as news about the international activities of members of our Society and other international medical associations.
Other activities of the Society can be followed on our recently updated website
(see: www.hkld.hr) where the electronic edition of the HKLD Gazette is also available.

Greetings in Christ!
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Rok Čivljak, MD
