Members of the Croatian Catholic Medical Association Pakrac, Lipik, Daruvar Branches attended the Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease held in Lipik Spa on September 27 and 28, 2024

It was the 6th regional conference on Alzheimer’s disease with international participation, and 4 of them were held in Lipik. This year’s theme of the conference was: “Challenges of long-term care for people with dementia – OSD”.

The organizers of the conference were the LiPa Palliative Team, Požega-Slavonia County and the City of Lipik, and support was provided by numerous partners and sponsors the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Labor, Pension System, Family and Social Policy of the Republic of Croatia.

The moderators were the president of the scientific and expert committee of prof.dr.sc. Silva Butković Soldo, prim.dr.med. and the president of the organizing committee Ljerka Pavković, mag.med.techn.

They managed to assemble a multidisciplinary team of experts, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, lawyers, speech therapists, social workers, etc.

Over the course of two days, participants discussed important aspects of prevention, care and support for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The conference, after the introductory greetings, began with a lecture by academician Vida Demarin entitled “Lifestyle and Brain Health”. In her presentation, Academician Demarin emphasized the importance of preventing dementia through maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

This was followed by expert lectures and presentations by invited eminent experts and practitioners.

As part of the conference, an updated edition of the “Handbook for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and their family members” was promoted, as well as a series of professional workshops.

The conference is extremely important to us in order for this public health problem to reach the public, and we show our commitment to raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and providing adequate care and support to patients and their families, was the emphasis of the organizers.
