The year 2013 is now over.
The two meetings we had, in Zagreb in May, and in Bari in October, were very good meetings, and in both we received an exceptional welcome.
In Zagreb, we spent much of our time studying a document of the Council of Europe on end of life issues, and were able to pass on our comments to the Committee on Bioethics (DH-Bio).
In Bari, we had the joy of receiving a Russian orthodox physician, sent by Moscow Patriarchate, while Istanbul Patriarchate sent us a very friendly supporting message for our ecumenical approach, which will be continued.
Three of us – in addition to the President and the Secretary General of FIAMC – were able to attend, on the 1st November at Domus Sanctae Marthae, the FIAMC executive Committee meeting, which also included representatives of Asia, Africa and both Americas. There we had the delight to see the Holy Father Francis.
Christian values that made the unity of Europe are unfortunately today highly contested in the same countries which were their defenders, notably France and Benelux : meaning of marriage, abortion as a right, assistance to suicide, euthanasia of children, or even without the consent of the patient… What is our civilization becoming now?
Fortunately, after the historical renunciation of Benedict XVI, whose intellectual power and courage we greatly admired, the Holy Father Francis brought us a new breath from a young continent, one of the first event of which is the apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium, which largely responds to the question of the new evangelization.
Upcoming dates to remember are:
– The World Day of the Sick, 11th February 2014, for which the message of the Holy Father is already available at http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/messages/sick/index_en.htm
– Our next board meeting, from the 5th to the 8th June 2014 in Bratislava (Slovakia), in conjunction with the International Conference of the Pontifical Council for Health
– The 24th World Congress of FIAMC, from the 1st to the 4th October 2014, in Manila (Philippines).
– Finally, in Budapest, in late October or early November 2014 , should be held our second board meeting of the year.
The FEAMC will be 50 years old next year (the 1st European Congress of the Catholic Doctors took place in 1964 in Malta).

L’année 2013 est maintenant terminée.
Les deux réunions que nous avons eues, à Zagreb en mai, et à Bari en octobre, se sont déroulées dans la joie, et ont toutes deux bénéficié d’un accueil exceptionnel.
A Zagreb, nous avons consacré une bonne partie de notre temps à étudier un document du Conseil de l’Europe sur les questions de Fin de vie, et avons pu transmettre nos commentaires au Comité de Bioéthique (DH-Bio).
A Bari, nous avons eu la joie de recevoir un médecin orthodoxe russe, envoyé par le Patriarcat de Moscou, tandis que le Patriarcat d’Istanbul nous adressait un message de soutien très chaleureux face à notre démarche oecuménique, qui sera poursuivie.
Trois d’entre nous – outre le Président et le Secrétaire Général de la FIAMC – ont pu assister le 1er novembre à Domus Sanctae Marthae, à la réunion de bureau de la FIAMC qui réunissait également des représentants d’Asie, Afrique et des deux Amériques. Nous avons eu la joie d’y voir le Saint-Père François.
Les valeurs chrétiennes qui ont fait l’unité de l’Europe sont malheureusement aujourd’hui très contestées dans les pays mêmes qui en étaient les défenseurs, notamment la France, et le Bénélux: signification du mariage, avortement considéré comme un droit, assistance au suicide, euthanasie des mineurs, ou sans même le consentement du malade… Vers quelle civilisation allons-nous?
Heureusement, après le renoncement historique de Benoît XVI, dont nous avons beaucoup admiré la puissance intellectuelle et le courage, le Saint-Père François nous apporte un nouveau souffle venu d’un jeune continent, dont une des premières manifestations est l’exhortation apostolique Evangelii gaudium, qui répond en grande partie à la question de la nouvelle évangélisation.

– La Journée Mondiale du Malade, le 11 février 2014, pour laquelle le message du St-Père est accessible sur: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/messages/sick/index_fr.htm
– Notre prochaine réunion de bureau, du 5 au 8 juin 2014 à Bratislava (Slovaquie), en même temps que la Conférence Internationale du Conseil Pontifical pour la Santé
– Ne 24e Congrès Mondial de la FIAMC, du 1er au 4 octobre 2014, à Manille (Philippines).
– Enfin, fin octobre, ou début novembre 2014, devrait avoir lieu à Budapest notre 2e réunion de bureau de l’année.
La FEAMC aura 50 ans l’année prochaine (le premier Congrès Européen des Médecins Catholiques a eu lieu en 1964 à Malte).
